Default 1/4" quilting foot question

Recently bought a 1/4" quilting foot for my Brother machine. The instructions only show where to place the fabric & some other instructions about different measurements. My question is: Can you backstitch with a 1/4" quilting foot. I know that I can't backstitch with my walking foot. Thanks!

You should be able to! I certainly can with mine on my Bernina!

You should. I do with mine all the time. I can also adjust how far to the left my needle can go. Be sure to measure the 'true' 1/4" measure. The center of that foot is not always at the 1/4". Ask me how I know this. LOl

I have with mine also. My foot does not have the metal guide on the right side though. It just has indents for the measurements.

You should be able to use it just like a regular foot. It just has a guide to help you. I found mine (Janome) gives me an ample quarter inch and have to watch it to make it scant when I work on group projects. It certainly helps with the consistency!

I have a Brother and have both the regular quarter inch piecing foot and the quarter inch with the metal bar guide. Backstitching is no problem with either. Go for it...

Just a hint Be sure the needle is in the correct position for the 1/4" inch foot. I have broken many needles by not checking the needle position. I also have a brother CS 8072
