I remember these Singer machines from when I was younger (in the fifties).
The name was an abbreviation of "Singer Manufacturing Company" "Si man co" hence "Simanco"
but were vary rarely called that as Singer was much easier to say. Besides "Singer Machines" had
such a brilliant name in the sewing world. Singer machines were the "The best of the best".
Feel as though I need to write Amen as though I have been preaching. lol Gleniveve

I just bought a 185j last week! It looks exactly like yours only it is in a carrying case. I only paid $15.00 for mine. I am waiting for a new belt, it still had the originial green belt on it but it was very brittle so I ordered a new one. I love the look of it and can hardly wait for it to be up and running. Mine was very clean too, I don't think it was used much at all. Good luck with yours!
