Billy is right it has been refurbished. orginally it was a treadle machine. back when electricity was new, during the day you could use electrcity and when the electricity was turned off for the night, you could get the old oil lamp out swivel the moter out of the way and revert back to the treadle.

Beautiful machine, love the Singer but maybe that is because they were made here in Australia. I have one singer which I must research but it is hand operated.

hi,that really is a nice machine. is that a hamilton beech motor? i have an old greyhound that came with one that looks like yours but it doesn't work. did yours have a foot peddle shaped like a foot? just wonder if this motor can found or what can be done?
