Red face use minky fabric to back a baby quilt

has anyone ever used minky fabric to back a baby quilt? I like the idea since it is so soft, but I'm not sure how it quilts or washes ??
    thanks

It washes just fine. When I quilt it I use my walking foot. All my nieces and nephews love the cuddliness of the minky!

it will be just fine. i have done a few baby blankets and even a large lap quilt with minky. definatly use a walking foot with it. and if you not using batting in the middle it will be fine. I have done both. I would suggest using a basting spray to put the top to the minky. it makes it a ton easier and it will help stableize the minky,

Do you suggest NOTputting batting with Minky? I'm piecing a top now that will have minky backing and am undecided about the batting.

I have done five quilts with minke backs. Three baby sized and two twin sized. They have all washed wonderfully and the kids loved cuddling up with the softness.

I do agree with the spray basting though. I spray basted and pinned the day lights out of each one. No problems with the quilts. My LQS recommended the spray basting too. Also, all of mine had batting. Hobbs heirloom maybe? I prefer a higher loft batting anyway. All cotton too maybe. Not sure there, would have to check my notes.

I mostly used the "dotty" minke as well and have never had any problems with it. I am hand epp a gfg quen sized at the moment and want to back that one in minke but that one has to go to the LAer so we will see if that is allowed.

I've used Polydown batting with Minkee on the back but it makes a really warm quilt. It's fine for Canada but you might not need it in Florida. The fleece backing wanted to stretch a little so bin or baste it well. It washed up just fine and is so soft and cuddly.

I have made baby quilts with Minky because I LOVE how they feel. I would suggest spray basting too. I use satin binding to add even more "yum" to the baby quilts. I use a silicon piece on my machine to help the minky move along as I quilt when I do free-motion quilting. I stitch in the ditch first with my walking foot, then do fancies later. My first one I did without the silicon slider was a real bear.

I've done minkee backs on the longarm both with and without batting. Loading it with the stretch going the right direction is the key for LA. It quilts great and feels great.
