I always match my thread to my fabric and use a zigzag stitch.

I would be eclectic with the colors of the flowers, just like Mother Nature. I love this quilt - it is so springy and pretty. Love to see a photo when you get finished.

Lovely work, and your Sunbonnets are just fabulous. I agree with those who say either white or cream thread.

I have made such a quilt and used white thread for the applique. However, the next one, I think I will match the colors which makes the Sue stand out more.

I darling quilt! Have you considered using a clear poly thread? This way you could use it for all your sues and borders. I have used this several times for different appliques. I prefer a blanket stitch instead of a zigzag. Looking forward to seeing it finshed.

I am not a SBS fan, but I love yours. I think I would use the cream and do the small zigzag. I like the blanket stitch but fraying is sometimes an issue when something is washed often. To me, the perfect color for the sashing would be the soft golden yellow that is in so many of the dresses/hats. The green would be very springlike, but cool. The golden yellow would warm it up like the soft afternoon rays of sun.

Sunbonnet Sue is my favorite. She looks great in the fabrics chosen. Good job.

Since your background is white, I would use white. Very nice, BTW. Love the fabrics you used.
