IDEAS, ANYONE? I could use some input on my center for the IRR. I want to use a fabric I bought four years ago when I made my first visit to Hancocks of Paducah and found some pieces of a lovely floral on the remnant table. I had admired this fabric in the catalog a year earlier. I had in mind from the start doing a center floral panel with a series of borders, but I couldn’t decide what to do and was chicken to start on it. So I’m going to let all of you help me out. The fabric is Lakehouse Hydrangea and Raspberries, and I was surprised to see a thread posted last week about this same fabric coming out in new colorways. [I’ll admit I’m much more partial to mine than what is coming.]
Here’s the dilemma. The fabric has a large, lush hydrangea motif that I HATE to cut up to make into smaller blocks. The largest motif is 12 inches across and I want to have that intact and centered. I also would ideally like to have some of the background showing, as it has a lovely sheen with subtle scrollwork that will be lost if I make a bunch of smaller blocks. The only idea I’ve come up with is adding a crossbar grid, like a window or trellis, and leave the largest motif intact and centered. I’m posting a rough image of what this might look like. I would cut and stagger a bit the arrangements of the flowers in the side blocks but leave the center flower intact. Before I begin, are there any other ideas? Remember that I’m a fairly new quilter and I should stick to a fairly uncomplicated simple design and let this pretty fabric carry the show. Thanks for any input!

I just stumbled on this thread and was so captivated by all the beautitul work that I went through all the pages! I love seeing what all you talented quilters come up with. Maybe I can join IRR next time. As it is I am back to school next week so my time is short. :-) :-)
