Wow everyone, I'm really bowled over by all the lovely comments. I've PM'd most people who wanted the pattern, but for those I missed here are the details:-
The pattern, which is originally an octagonal design called cinnamon twist, appeared in a book called Frosted memories by Sherri K. Falls, published by This and that patterns. I borrowed the book and it wasn't until I checked the website - www.thisandthatpatterns.com I found that the book was discontinued. The book is full of christmassy things, tabletoppers, runners, tree skirts, wine bottle tag, cushion/pillow and more and cost $20. Thanks Johns2ndwife for posting details of the pattern found in the Fons & Porter mag, it's about the same, and with so many talented quilters on the QB I'm sure patterns could be made!
