There was an interesting article online today about a black/white rug that made people feel seasick after looking at it and some research done on it. It says certain repeating patterns in high contrast can really affect some people.

I've seen a post or two on the QB about someone feeling ill or dizzy while working on a quilt. I know sometimes I've felt a bit dizzy when studying quilts done in just two color with high contrast and repeating blocks.

Have you ever made a quilt with a pattern that made you feel sick? What was the pattern? Did you finish making it?

Never had a quilt make me sick. But I am more likely to use soft colors when sewing. Love the bold ones also but don't have the courage to put all those colors together.

Never any that I have made ... though there are some Bargellos that would!

I haven't made one, and that's why I am very hesitant to do so.
On the other hand ... I have seen some that I totally enjoy and appreciate.
I want to make a Bargello ... and the first one will be totally a replication of one I have seen and said .... awesome!

I haven't made one that made me seasick, but there are some fabrics that will do it. Especially black and white stripes.

I made a batiq quilt Midnight Turtles, a kit from Keepsake Quilting and my husband can't be in the same room with it. I love the quilt and the deep colors, but it makes him nauchous. I suppose I will have to give it away since he doesn't want it in the house.

There was a beautiful turquoise and white quilt on here one day and she said it was bother her. I looked at it and it would have made me sick too. Then she finished it and added the borders and it didn't do that to you anymore, which was nice because it was so pretty. This isn't uncommon as I understand. I am careful with it because even some stripes on blouses bother me, but I may be a little sea sick anyway!

Don't give it away, make another pillow case type cover and cover it over.

It sometimes happens when I am trying to follow a complicated bargello pattern . Its not the fabrics , its the pattern in the book! I finally learned to cover up the columns completed , and the ones I have not yet done. Those small grids just make me dizzy trying to focus and follow a specific line.

I had a inner ear infection, ever since patterns on a rug or the small boards on a bowling lane make me dizzy. I agree covering up some of the pattern really helps

Never had a quilt make me sick. Have seen some bed sheets that made me feel cross eyed.
