That's not selfish, you were there first, it was rude of the cutter to even say that.

Absolutely! You were in the right! It was YOUR fabric to begin with. I don't see a thing wrong with what you did and would NOT classify that as being selfish at all.

Sometimes fabric is discontinued and the store can't order more so my moto, always buy more than I think I might need. Which is why I am now beginning to downsize...................

All stores have the policy of "first come-first served". You had picked out the fabric first, so by rights you should get to say how much of the bolt that you want. I just hate it when RUDE people cut in front of you in line. Why do they think you are standing there-because you have nothing better to do?? lolol You ABSOLUTELY had the first right at the fabric. How RUDE of the clerk to even suggest that the second customer gets first "whack" at the fabric.

You weren't selfish, you had the bolt first, and you should have first choice of what you wanted. I can't believe the sales clerk took the bolt and started to cut for the other lady first. Where was her head! I would have done exactly as you did. If I were the other lady, I would have quietly told the clerk that I would like some of that fabric if there was any left after yours had been cut. Good for you!
