I cringe every time I hear "I mean". Why don't they just say what they mean!!!! Another one is "you know". No, I don't know but I'm waiting for you to tell me!!!!

Unfortunately, I am guilty of several of these examples...why?? because I am getting LAZY - don't you think that we in general are losing our abilty to speak correct English. We are also forgetting manners - is that a thing of the past> We hear bad grammar so much that we slide into that mode. Do you think that all of the "texting shorthand" is a contributing cause?? Do they not teach proper English anymore in schools?

I have seen examples of teachers allowing students to "write" as they" speak" when doing reports, etc. The reason they give is that it's more important that they get the idea down on paper rather than spelling correctly. When I was in school (long ago), proper English in any subject was important. Misspelled words were deductions to your grade regardless if it was history or English!!

One of my sons'middle school teachers sent home a note that started "I be needing to speak to you..." I spoke to the principal about a new teacher for my son. Some people don't realize how uneducated they write and sound, even after getting a college degree.

Are you really? Then I, uh, suppose that it uh, doesn't uh bother you like when uh people keep uh saying uh just about every other uh word because they can't seem to uh think without, you know, uh, saying it. However, it makes me want to yank their tongue right out of their mouth about three minutes after they start, tie it in a knot, and tell them to NEVER do it again. You know?

Not thrilled with Like or You Know, either. Whatever....just shows they don't really know "whatever" in my never humble opinion.

It was interesting to see many of the sayings that irritate me, especially being addressed by a young person as "you guys". Just as bad: "You people..."
