Actually, it is a 185j (I think) which was meant to replace the 99----It is a nice little machine and I love sewing with mine.

Basicly yes, though the actual model number is 185, it is a 99 with a facelift.
Most parts are interchangeable to my understanding. Also it is an aluminum machine so is lighter than a 99 (I would think amyway). Be cautious though, there is a later machine where they changes the feed mechanism (282?)

I have this machine, a 185K. I wouldn't buy the listed one because of the light that was added on. It's not an original to the machine light.

I would LOVE, to buy this machine, but they only ship UPS which would cost me around 60 bucks. Any one wanna play freight forwarder for me ?

is there a way to tell the 185's apart fom the 285's ? I mean apart from looking underneath? take a look at this video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tj6XaW-Wk98 the 285 seems to have a linear (rack and pinion ) feed mechanism, as compared to the rotary action of the 185 ( 99) I would be interested in a 185, but not so much the 285.
