pinked edges on precuts

I hate them too!!! A few years ago I bought a jelly roll that was pinked, had the worst time. I am so glad they now have jelly rolls that aren't pinked.
Hate, hate HATE pinked edges. If the edges on strips(honeybuns) are pinked, I don't buy it. I end up sewing 1/4 inch in from the valley of the pinked edge so I actually waste more fabric than if the edges were straight. I could re-cut the pinked edge straight but that kind of wastes the benefit of buying pre-cuts doesn't it?

Thanks for all the responses! Finally I discovered what was wrong!!! My pinked strips measure 1 1/2" from the VALLEY on one side to the PEAK on the other....go figure! So on the first strip, in order to make my succeeding strips the correct size, I have to sew with the PEAK of the pinked edge even with the straight edge and on the opposite side I have to sew with the straight edge even with the VALLEY of the pinked side. Doesn't sound like it would make that much difference does it but it does when you're sewing 5 strips together.

Me too BellaBoo..... It works best for me to measure my seam from the tip of the pinked edge. I spent the afternoon today making strip sets from a jelly roll. After staring at those for a while, the pinked edges just sort of melt into a straight edge.

I made an entire quilt with 5" pinked charms and when I went to put the 4 quarters together (to the middle panel), it didn't match up at all. I found out that it wasn't 5" from peak to peak. And I wasn't about to rip out every 5" block and start over. Now it's folded up in a corner.

Gosh all this was good to know. I think I will stick to cutting my own strips. I'd hate to do all that work then discover the squares didn't fit together. If I do use them I'd better make sure I am full of coffee so I am alert enough to measure then figure when I'm supposed to be following the peak or the valley. Seriously, I have hung a medium sized wipe off board in sewing room so I can jot down little things like this. If my sewing gets interrupted I can just check the notes for that project when I get back to it.
