We bought a Maytag Washer & Dryer .. and LOVE them !! Top loader is what we needed for the space we have for them, but it truly works !! But then also before my Kenmore broke down and was not able to get parts for (yes it was old!!LOL), I swore by it ! So either Kenmore or Maytag has my vote !

I agree with Coopah about not buying the first year model. We had loads of problems with a first year van that we bought. Do your research first.

We all have our favorite brands, Maytag used to be at the top of the list but in 2005 they moved their manufacturing overseas and lost their reputation for reliability.
I bought a Kenmore High Efficiency top loader to save on water. Huge capacity, and it has been trouble free for 5 years. However, now I want to Retayne some fabric and you can't do that in these efficient automatic machines! I wish now I had a few more manual controls.

so many 'old name' companies are now under new owners - and they just don't seem to make the same quality of goods any longer - Sad
My Maytag washer is from 1990 or 1991 - and still runs well - but I wouldn't venture to say what the new models are like

Maytag! Maytag! Maytag! I have always had one, my mother always had one, my MIL always had one... they take a licking & keep on ticking! Here's what workhorses they are... my DS & DIL have one that was my MIL from the 50's. She washed in it every day. Then when we got married, she gave it to us. I washed zillions of loads of wash in it. Never had to have it serviced (once a belt broke but DH was able to fix that). Then when DS & DIL bought their first house, I gave it to them (so I could get a new Maytag). I serious... they are wonderful & worth every $$$!
