    Default Printed fabric issue

    Hi everyone,

I wanted to make a memory quilt for my grandmother, but it turns out having a baby is a lot of work! I'm headed back home to Canada in a few days and had time to make her a quilted pillow.

Everything was fine until I spritzed it with water to fluff up the quilting in the dryer. The package of printable fabric (Printed Treasures) said it was washable.

While the ink didn't run, it darkened considerably. Not the end of the world, but I was wondering if any of you had a suggestion to set it so it doesn't worsen if she washes it. Retayne? Synthrapol? Both?

No idea, but it is really cute! Any grandmother would treasure that!

Did you heat set it with your iron after printing it onto the fabric?

    I did heat set it

I'm thinking maybe it's my printer's ink as we didn't use namebrand ink but a knock-off?

No idea how that ink would react with Synthrapol, either.

I don't think I've used that brank of fabric but most of the ones I used needed to be rinsed to remove excess ink.

    !&@%!#

That's what I get for not reading the instructions. Thank you, kathy!

I would be very reluctant to use Sythropol ... and definately not Retayne ! Can you make a small sample and try it with the Sythropol?

I wouldn't worry about it. It looks good as it is and G'Ma isn't going to washing it all that often. I bet it is finished doing whatever it needed to do. My first experience with printing was a little dark, too, but the Epson printer lays down so much more than the HP. I did rinse mine as directed. When all else fails, read the directions.
