Hi Everyone, I'm building a bedspread for myself and having such a hard time with satin stitching using metallic thread. I have watched tutorials and am using a piece of styrofoam for the thread to travel through to help prevent twisting, I also have my tension loosened, have the metallic needle with the large eye, and still I can sew about one-half inch before the thread breaks. The zig zag is also pulling the bobbin thread to the top some too. This is so frustrating that I'm about to give up and pack it all away. The reason I'm using the metallic thread is because the fabric has little gold flecks all through it. It's hard to see but it's really pretty fabric.

I've included pictures of what I'm trying to accomplish if I don't lose my mind first. Do you have any other suggestions for me? Thanks in advance.... rebecca

I love it! Pasley is one of my favourite patterns. As far as the thread breaking sorry I can't help you.

Some one once said to put the metalic thread in the bobbin and quilt from the back side but that seems so difficult to do. I think there is a product (sewers aid)that you can rub on your spool of thread to help it go through your machine better and prevent it from breaking.

How many have you already done? If possible I would switch to a different brand metallic, one with a softer, less brittle feel. If not possible try a needle with a larger eye that is for top stitching or embroidery?

Are you using the needles for the gold thread? The needles are specially made for that thread.

Maybe if you contact a sewing center, one that sells machines, they might be able to help you. They do all sort of work that just amazes me. Good luck!

Yes Ma'am... I made a special trip to the fabric store just for those before I even started this. I'm at my wits end right now... haha!

I have thought about doing that also... just ripping out the 5 or six items I've already done and starting over... man o man!
