yes, patching jeans is dangerous to your sewing machine -- I have damaged one and gotten threads and stuff stuck in the bobbin mechanism -- new jeans are the answer!!

Seams are terrible but if you use a large enough piece of iron on you can sew each side of seam and only catch the thick part occasionally. good luck
This is a good idea. Do you use the iron on patches you see at the fabric stores?

Learn from my mistake - Do NOT challenge your sewing machine like this...i broke the tension on one of my 'old favorites' doing this!

When dealing with heavy/multilayer seams, you need to put a shim behind the seam to life the foot evenly over the seam. If your machine is made to handle thick seams, it should then sew ok. If not, who knows what will happen?

    Good luck!

Use Iron on patches. If they hold up, fine. If they don't, just toss the jeans!

I was just about to suggest cutting them into nice neat squares and presenting him with a lovely rag quilt, when I saw that others had the same idea. Once it's done, there is no question about fixing them, and you can get him a nice new pair of jeans. Or Santa can bring them to him. You could even cut a square around one of the holes, back it with a red calico, and use the block in the quilt as a reminder of the condition the jeans were in. Do it with a smile, and both get a good laugh out of it!

Yes I do. I usually buy whenever I find them as when I need them I need them right then. As I used the next to last patch in the package I am now on the look out for more. If I remember right Jo Anns has them. Occasionally Tuesday Morning.
