For all you Texas "talkers"...I have to tell y'all () that I am up in the panhandle area...400+ miles north of Dallas/Fort Worth. Texas is like a whole "nother country" in a way...where I am we have highs in the 105+...and lows in the minuses...we just had 19+ inch blizzard end of February...with 70+ mph winds...I am in the country, so we had some tall drifts!!! I have never lived anywhere but here, so it is all I know...and I admit when I have traveled, I am always ready to get back home!! That being said, the last 3 years or so, we have been in a drought, and warmer than normal..I miss getting all of the seasons...as it seems like Spring and Autumn (my fave) get rushed thru...lol...I also looooove rain, so I definitely live in the wrong part of the state for that, there is much more rain from probably Childress south...One last thing is, when I tell people I am in Texas, several of my friends up north always think we never have Winter or cold...I have to "edg-i-cate) them about that...haha...
Take care all!
Kif
PS Jaba, maybe your hubby will decide to "retire" again next year...and you can "Come on over"!!

Many moons ago I went to school in El Paso, just remember those spring dust storms, miserable sand blowing everywhere. Haven't been back since, but I now have a grand daughter that lives in Dallas. For now that is her "base" she's an airline stewardess and loves it there. I keep adding little hints to travel in the winter and get out of the cold snow. Now if it just works?

dallas got some snow this year, possibly even more than we had in philly. this darn global warming! dallas had 4 seasons, but fall , winter, and spring are short. seems we always had a week-long ice storm where everything closed down. there just aren't things like snow plows and sand trucks. and of course, more than a fair share of lunatic drivers who think they can drive on ice. and itty bitty women driving hummers! but the people are warm and friendly! there's air conditioning everywhere, and life is at a good pace. and i love the land. bucks county, PA, where i am now is also a beautiful area. lots of fields and hills, and flowering bushes and beautiful fall foliage. but people are in a hurry. no time to talk, don't need new friends, they are set in their ways and like it. i made friends here through the quilt board. crazy? yes, but it saved my sanity! it was just a huge culture shock! but 90% of my family is in texas and that's where my heart is.

Thank you, it was fun making it. THose are the one-of-a-kind, though because you buy the laser cutouts and once you use them, they're gone. I guess I could go buy more - I know a store that sells them....

i'm going to tell this story, and i swear it is the truth (hand over heart, or pancreas, left lung? i don't know). in 1977 into 1978 i was living in new england. we had the blizzard of '78. i went to a 2 story window and climbed out, with my cross-country skiis and went to a neighbor's house to get her dog. i skiied down the drift from the window and skied a little more than 1/4 mile to her house. i had to dig the door out when i got there. her poor baby was standing with his legs crossed and the water level rising in his eyes! anyway, i let him out and took him with me to our house. he pulled me on the skiis back home. it was a little tough getting him through the window. did i mention he was an irish setter golden mix? big, sweet baby of a dog. he was so happy to be out of his house! and as i recall, he was pretty hungry, too! but what fun it was to go get him. and have him pull me home!
after that storm we moved to texas, in august! with a car and a moving truck. i had the screaming cat and the 6month old baby who was teething. dh had the truck, no music radio (we had cb's), and the car sick dog. what a trip! it took us 3 days, and re=enforced in my mind just how far away we were moving. years later i did the trip in 24 hrs straight with one break for b'fast. but that's another story! anyway, the next year we had a horrible heat wave and drought, i think it was 104 days over 100 dgrees. so i wanted to get a tee shirt that said ' i've been tested' and on the back, ' blizzard of 78, heat wave of 80.' that was a very wierd time in my life! it took 2 years to adjust to the differences , and then i never wanted to leave! granted, we were in dallas which has milder weather than the panhandle. and fewer tornadoes ! probably fewer of most things. i never saw a rattlesnake or a live armadillo. they are used as speed bumps. the boys had a tarantula as a pet. we did have little glass scorpions. they like the dark, so they get in your shoes. and when you put your foot in, WOWZER! but they're not any worse than a bee sting. trouble is, though, they are very hard to see, and easy to step on.
