I got ahead of myself by a long shot. I was hoping to finish a quilt for a friend's birthday which is today. I finished the top, spray basted, then thought, "I can get this binding on now and hand stitch the back while I watch tv tonight." So, I squared it up, cut the binding, and had 3/4's of the binding done on the machine, when I froze. I hadn't quilted it. Good grief. So now it's seam ripper time to take the binding off, then hope that I can still quilt it without messing things up. I'll probably do SID, which sounds safe.
Am I the first to make this mistake??

I'm sorry that happened but it did start my morning off with a laugh. I'm laughing because I can see myself going along thinking I'm following the correct process too and letting my thoughts get ahead of me and then doing the same thing. Hope it was easy to fix.

I have, and then quilted on the frame with my sewing machine. Came out fine.
If you're machine quilting on a frame, you could just baste a strip of fabric to top, bottom and sides of the backing, mount it on the frame, and quilt the quilt. Take the basted fabric off the quilt when done.
