Default Can I cut fabric with Big Shot (regular/smaller - not Pro)

I use to do scrapbooking and own a Sizzix Big Shot (the regular size one - not the "Pro"). I would love to be able to use it to cut Stars and Hearts and Circles and other special shapes for applique. Has any one used their Big Shot to cut fabric - and if so, which dies did you get? Joann's has some Accuquilt dies on sale but it doesn't list the size, so I'm not sure if it will fit the Big Shot.

Just thought I'd see if anyone else has done this. Thanks!

I have not used the big shot, but I have used the regular red sizzix die cut machine to cut squares and it did just fine. I don't know why the big shot wouldn't work as well.

Yes, it will work. Make sure you put a fusible interfacing on the back before cutting. Sizzix and Accucut are competitors so I don't think that the Accuquilt dies will fit the Big Shot.

I have the Big Shot also - you just have to be aware of the width of the dies.

Accuquilt dies are thinner than sizzix dies. If you want to use an accuquilt die in a sizzix cutter, you will need to use something as a shim to make up the difference. Having said that, I just looked at my accucut dies (not that I have them all!) and they all are wider than what the original sizzix cutter will accomodate. I would look for some of the original sizzix shapes, they will cut fabric.

I just made an applique quilt and used a flower die for the big shot to cut the fabric with no problems.

I don't have any big dies with my big shot (my big shot was used mostly for embossing and dies to make boxes) - so I'd be BUYING dies to make circles, stars, hearts and other shapes - the ones I've seen are Accuquilt brand and I've heard I can use their dies on the Big Shot (but not vice-versa).

Sizzix has dies on their website for cutting quilt pieces. Here's a link to their quilt die page:

My daughter got me the Big Shot for Christmas and I'm thinking of getting at least the 2 1/2" strip die.

There is a yahoo group for sizzix owners which you will find very helpful. There are lots of quilters that use the Big Shot for fabric. If I remember correctly, the 6 inch accuquilt dies are actually wider than 6 inches and are too wide for the big shot. The smaller accuquilt dies can be used with the big shot using shims.

Also, sign up for the sizzix emails. They have a weekly special.

Achristina, I love your avatar. :-)

You sure can, as long as it isn't a sizzlits die for thin paper. any of the dies cut fabric, have used mine quite a bit for applique shapes and drunkards path dies work in the small one as well. the big shot takes smaller dies than the accuquilt baby go so not many fit, however you can use all accuquilt dies on the pro. sizzix does have their own dies for hearts and circles and such, just go to www.sizzix.com to see all of their dies including basic shapes
