Sandy: I am almost done hand piecing a GFG, but I am going to cheat. I am going to sew the same fabric I used for the "path" on the outside of the quilt cutting off one side of the hexies. Your method is going to look great but I'm to lazy.

Emma, I had very much considered cutting off one edge like you plan to do. But then my other side said that the lady who gave me the top went to so much trouble to hand piece it and I spent 2 years of my life (mostly at night semi-watching tv) hand quilting it that I decided I did not want to do the last part easy. I can't blame you for wanting to do it and get it done. Please share pics when yours is done. I had to learn several things while doing this so am thinking it is just another exercise for my old brain! LOL!

I did finish the top last night then got side tracked on how to quilt it. I have looked at photos of the quilt done by others, but I just don't want to do cross hatch in the background. I want something with more movement than just the traditional. So the search goes. I want to get it done by Saturday AM so I can take with me to do the binding over the weekend when out of town. Need something to keep me busy for sure. Plus I am doing a stitching bee challenge over the internet and you know me, miss competitive, I want to win so need to finish. Although it is just a drawing, the more your name is in the mix, the more chances to win.

Quiltermomma: Charming is the word that pops to mind. Love the colors and the minature look to the blocks. No ideas for the quilting but wonder what would have been the "traditional" quilting treatment. Wonder if there are any historical resources available.

In my search, they did cross hatch in the open area on the whole quilt with small wreaths around the snowball blocks in the sashing. I was wanting to get away from that. I do know that the feathers is on the traditional of the 30s. It was the trend for that era. So definitely doing those. I am doing a feather/cable in the outer border and in blocks and center. But from there that background is where I am stumped.

Here are two UFOs that have made it to flimsy stage this week and are next up on the sandwiching/quilting list - Kitchen Sink Strings and Scrappy Summertime.

asimplelife--a couple more great scrappy quilts

I have 4 rows quilted on the airplane quilt...just 3 left before adding borders. In between I have been working on a D9P...I've had the 9Ps done for a while. Cut them apart yesterday and got them sewn together today. I will need to make a couple more blocks to make it 3x4....I wasn't sure if how I was going to lay it out for sure. I am using fabric originally cut for a different pattern and still have some left. I'll look for fabric for setting triangles or border tomorrow when I work (at quilt shop). I have a yard of one of the black prints that I could use for one or the other...just not enough for both.
