I worked for over 40 years, have not worked for 4 years. Have not been bored at all, there is always something to do, I finally get to do the things I could not do when I worked. Go to a day women's Bible study, learn to quilt, read a good book along with the cleaning, cooking and everyday 'chores', so everyday is pretty much filled. Oh, and I volunteer at the local library - there are plenty of volunteers needed in many areas. Boredom doesn't have to be an option on our list.....

Definition of bored. Adjective
Feeling weary because one is unoccupied or lacks interest in one's current activity.
How can people be bored with so many rich things in life nowadays. Children are bored because they want life put in front. They don't turn a stick into a walking cane or run round holding a plane flying or sit and make something.
Or even sit and read. Plenty of fantastic books but how many of our youngsters read them even using a kindle doesn't appeal. They want life on the screen of some kind. Weary because of nothing too do.
I think if I had been mum would have given me a cleaning job or something to do. I was taught to read by a great grandma who also taught my father. Iwas taught to knit by mum and crochet by a great aunt and sewing by another great aunt. My grandma taught me to cook.
I came from a world without tv. No computers and electronic games. I was never bored no time to be.

I retired a few years ago and have never felt this just afraid I will not have time to do all. The things I want to. So many quilts and projects.

I have been retired now for 17 years, and cannot recall one day when I have been bored.Quilting, gardening, friends, family, and luckily some travel, keep me very occupied. I know people who have dreaded retirement because they have no interests, and then end up being permanent child minders for their grandchildren. Now don't get me wrong, I adore my grandchildren, aged from 28 down to 3, and I see them as much as possible (only one lives near me) and childmind when necessary, but as I have brought up 5 children, and at the time had no time to myself, I feel my time is now my own. I am taking two of them to London for a 3 day visit, so I daresay a couple of days doing nothing at the end will be on the cards.

Interesting observation. This might explain why my GD is always saying she is bored. Doesn't matter where she is or who she's with - and she's only 10.

LOL Amen to that. Too funny! As an adult, I have not told my mother that. She always gave me something to do as a child. I learned real fast I wasn't as bored as I thought!

Growing up I can remember my Mom telling me "if you learn to sew, you will never be bored". She was right.

I think being bored is a lack of an imagination. I love being retired because I have time to explore and enjoy my many interests. If I get tired of one thing, there is always something else that will catch my attention.

agree w all comments but especially yours. retired early because of physical issues that weren't compatible with the heavy lifting & stress of my job. live alone out in middle of no where mostly, hubs gone 12 hours a day (works 4/10's + commute time) ...never bored. i tell those that ask - i don't have time to be bored. & if too tired to "do", i can sit, stitch, enjoy birdsong, breeze in the trees, or with a good book & a pile of happy furballs that are soooo glad i finally stopped so they could snuggle

I don't care if anyone is bored, that's their problem. Bored people are boring people.
