I am making a chinese lantern quilt for an adoption quilt. All the fabrics were given while the adoption process was going on. The problem is that the squares were not all the same size. Some of them are 7 inches, so I need to trim them all down to the same size and I wanted to use this pattern for her. My brain doesn't work quickly with this and I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I want to get started on this adoption quilt for this great little girl, but I am at a standstill.

My only requirement is to use these (88 of them) squares that are between 7 and 8 inches . So, I'll square them all off and go from there. I'd like to keep as much of the 7 inches as possible, but the pattern you posted is do-able. I want to keep with the look of the Happy Zombie quilt...the borders and all...I can do trial and error and figure out measurements, but I was hoping some of the people who think in numbers could help out.

Not enough information. Were you given squares by different people and they are not all the same size? Are you asking what the corner squares should be? I am not sure i understand what you are asking for. Do you need someone to draw a new pattern to accommodate whatever size the squares might end up being. Just a lot of unanswered questions to be helpful.

Is there a way you could alternate the sizes without having to cut the larger ones down? Maybe put 1" sashing on the larger blocks and 1-1/2" sashing on the smaller ones? Then assemble with or without additional sashing. This could give you a really nice balanced way to create your quilt.

In order to keep the proportions of the lanterns in your Glow Happy quilt (which is adorable, btw), you would have to down-size every patch in the blocks, setting pieces and the borders. It's doable, but would take some time. Your "lanterns" are not squares, but 7 1/2 by 8 1/2 inch rectangles. You would have to start with 6 X 7" rectangles, if 7" are the largest squares you have to work with. I would draw a block out on graph paper at the size YOUR blocks would need to be and go from there. Be aware it's also going to change your yardages and the number of strips they tell you to cut for each fabric.
