I did that once too and did cut it and sewed it together. Like busy fingers said - be sure to pressed the seams open - a pain - but fixable - unless you have easy access to the same fabric and can cut new bindings.

Wouldn't recommend it. To many seams in it for smooth binding. Do you have enough fabric to complete your binding with what is left? Save the border piece and use it for a border on some pillow cases to match the quilt.

Can you cut it from top of border on a diagonal to about 1inch above the end. Now join with a plain fabric . Do the same on each side and then. Square up.

If the border is around 2 1/2" you can cut some Lemoyne stars (diamonds) that would look really cool with the stripes.

Thanks DOTTYMO. I kind of thought about trying that and will think on it a little more. Possible.

Nobody is dumb!!!! Some of us just take little detours to get to where we want to be, also makes life a little more interesting!!! Can't you get some more material, even if it's different but matches to do the binding??? Good luck!!!

Think of it as tuition for your quilting education....then it's pretty cheap. Use the strips in scrap quilts and don't sweat it!

NOOOOOOOOO don't give up!! Yes, you can cut it into squares and the sew the squares together. Is it a lot of work?? Yes but sometimes it is what you wants. I'll try to find one I did on purpose!! Can you see the binding?? It is 2.5 inch squares
