I also buy pre-cuts as well. Usually mine are "rolled/arranged" in a way that I can see at least a "hint" of all of the fabrics. As the others said, they're usually part of a fabric line, and you can look at all of them that way. I also love our fq swap here on the board..though I agree with Bear and hope mine are cut like I cut what I ship..not "small". I don't grouse if I don't exactly "mesh" with what's sent as far as colors/patterns..as with a swap, I know I am signing up to get what I get... We all have great taste here, though, eh??!! I also buy yardage.. I am just a "sucker" for fabrics!
Mckwilter, that is a lovely quilt. You are so right, I am one who can (usually does) take forever to pick my fabrics for a quilt. I am getting better at "seeing" all "matchy" is fine, but so is exploring different colors/designs! Also agree if one has arthritis or pain, pre-cuts can be awesome. This is the beauty of this board and quilting...we all have unique tastes, can share them, and learn, too.
Regards all,
Kif
Have to say, the raveling edges on some pre-cuts are a nuisance...if I used mine quicker they would have less time to ravel.

I've never purchased pre-cuts but have made my own jelly rolls. I just did a quilt using 3" wide strips, 6 shades of gray with a 3" square of color between the grays. Now I'm appliqueing big flowers in a pot on the top. Will post a picture when it is done. I've seen some beautiful quilts out of jelly rolls - may break down and buy one someday!

I buy all my jelly rolls from Moda. I go to Pinterest and pick the jelly rolls. I have never been disappointed with Moda. It always shows you all the fabric in the roll. I have made several jelly roll race quilts and love them all.

I have bought some jelly rolls. I will not buy them unless I can see samples of what fabrics are included in the roll. I also look for statements such as "some fabrics may be duplicated". I bought a jelly roll that had duplicates in it. It turned out that there was only 20 fabrics and they were all duplicated.

I purchased a jelly roll, mostly blues and greens. When I opened it I decided it needed help so I incorporated a piece o fblue/white large print home dec fabric and strip pieced it and it is a beautiful quilt. Don't be afraid to substitute or add colors/prints of your own if you don't like some of the fabrics. I also cut one from my own fabrics and I really liked it better than the purchased one because they were colors I purchased because I liked them.

The Bali Pops have a card with them showing all the fabrics so if there is one you love or want for a border it is very easy to order the correct one. Batiks are pricey so getting a roll gives you a wide variety without buying expensive yardage. My last batch was on sale for $18 instead of $45 so I bought all he had left!
