Here's my reason for asking: when MasterPiece first came out, I bought a spool of it, but wasn't impressed with the strength of it; it seemed to break fairly easily. Few years later, I buy a few spools of Aurifil and really, REALLY like it! But, boy, is it expensive! Now MasterPiece is 3-ply rather than 2-ply, which I guess would make it a stronger thread, but I wanted to hear from some people who may have tried both before I invest in the new thread.
Anyway, thanks to those of you who have responded - looking forward to anyone else who may want to chime in and give your 2-cents worth!

Masterpiece was formerly a 2-ply thread, they have recently changed to 3-ply. I have only used the 2ply when doing hand applique, it is wonderful for that. Superior threads are high quality threads as are Aurifil. When comparing the price, be sure to compare price per yard. Aurifil is not so pricey if you do that.

I went to the RedRock website and compared price per yard. My rough calculations were $.01/yd for MP and $.006 to .007/yd for Aurifil. Superior Threads has MP 3-ply on sale now, which brings its cost to almost the same as Aurifil on the RedRock site; might be a good time to try it out.
