LOVE my 185J. I learned to sew on one in a cabinet. The cases are bakelite, so they don't hold up real well, but are kind of neat.

Just a note - they are heavy. In no way at the like a Featherweight except in size. Go after her. She is a really great little machine and sews like a dream. Just not necessarily one to tote around a lot.

not to keen on the plastic case, but the machine is calling my name. Now all of you LEAVE THIS ONE ALONE. LOL
I have one and love it. The case just needed a washing and buffing. I have yet to name her!
Goodluck and hope you get her..

Redmadder,

I don't know how to post pictures to the board but you can see the base here http://www.flickr.com/photos/4082313...h/10275700706/

Parrynj, you made that wooden base? Stunning! What great work you did on every part of it.The detailed cuts around the inner rim, everything. Wow. I am very much in awe.

I also have one of these in great condition in a blonde cabinet. But...mine is not quiet, it is loud, even after I wiped it down and oiled it good. I love the color too! Any suggestions on why mine would be so noisy?

I bought one for $20 and a friend is getting it spruced up as we speak - for free.
