Kitsie & Debra, I made a Mexican Star quilt with this pattern and it came out beautifully. Not that difficult either considering the 'curved' triangles! A photo of it, prior to LAQ, is posted in my album on the QB. I had it custom LAQ'ed and given as a wedding gift to my nephew & his wife.

This one is on my bucket list. Been staring at the pattern & wondering the same thing of expanding it. Dunster, I like your idea, but I've also seen one that basically was put together by making 5 of the original pattern & just adding another star on either side of the center one. I think you solved my curiosity & can move forward to creating it! Thanks for the thread & question!

I saw this block on point for a queen size quilt and it was beautiful. I don't know about the suggestion for a 16 inch block, I am not fond of any that size, they are just too big. Your original idea of plain blocks and a border sound great.

I recently did this block for our "block of the month" and it was the hardest one for me to do of all the blocks.
All our blocks were from EB. I would call this one "difficult"
