    I wrap the trunk with pretty Christmas ribbon that I buy inexpensively from Michael's each time I am in the US. The quilt is so beautiful.

    Ok beautiful quilt! You are crazy to risk it under the tree and floor.Rethink and just make a tree skirt.......

    I say USE that quilt any way you want, but before you put the quilt under the tree buy yourself a little bottle of Goo Gone and try it out on a few test scraps left over from your project. It is very good for removing pitch from fabric. It smells really strong and will probably have to be rinsed a few times, but the odor does eventually evaporate. There's also Lestoil (do they even make that any more?) and a range of orange oil cleaners that should work.
