border of scraps ... so white wouldn't be on the edge, if you have enough. If not, use scraps in backing ... and no border. This is a wonderful quilt

You have such a treasure from your mom. I think it is beautiful just as it is, I would simply pick a backing, quilt and bind.

I have a quilt my grandmother made about 50 years ago with lots of color like yours. She did not put a border on it. I think a border might take away from your quilt. Lovely quilt enjoy using it knowing that your mother made it.

Try a bright narrow inner border and a darker outer border. Just lay the fabrics under the quilt top and see how you like them.

Dunster said it better that I could have. If you don't need to increase the size, pick a binding that will frame the quilt. It would probably be easiest to have an all over pattern quilted on a longarm. If you wish to quilt it yourself, I would just do vertical and horizontal stitches lining up with the ditches. Kind of like cross hatching but done vertically instead of diagonally. My Grandmother also had Alzheimer's. Such a terrible disease to lose one's memories!!

I'm not thinking 'Border' with this quilt. I like it just this way. Maybe just add binding.

That is just beautiful. I think I would want to preserve it with just mom's work so no border, etc. Lovely quilting in those negative spaces would really bring it to life. Those long goodbyes are so horrible. As one said, just remember the good times when the times are tough.

What a pretty top!! I normally like borders on my quilts but this is pretty enough not to need one, IMHO.

I don't think it needs a border, unless you have a specific size that you want. I have a habit of doing both simple machine quilting in the colored blocks and then hand quilting in the nagative spots. When you bind it, you can use many differnt colored strips put together.
