This is a good tip and something I will remember. I have eased in lots of sleeves in my younger sewing days. If GD loves the quilt I am sure we will too. Picture..pretty please. :-)

> sorry I couldn't help but giggle. Glad you figured out a workaround and got that awesome quilt finished. We want to see a picture now

Thank you, thank you. I have a couple of old - from the thirties - hand pieced quilt tops. They were given to me by a now diseased relative to finish. Trouble - the borders have too much fabric (and can't really be removed and replaced because of some of the handwork). So this is a possible solution - I'm going to try it. In the end I may have to take a tuck or two, but this may reduce that need substantially.

I think you are a genius! Well done. Have another drink, because you deserve it. Thanks for the tip. I'm sure to need it one of these days.

You came up with a great solution, but I can understand your frustration. I was once making a quilt for my husband and decided a pieced border would be great, however, because the block had many, many bias pieces, one side came out longer than the other. I spent 2 days ripping out the border, then put it away for a while and wound up using a solid black for the border, it worked. It only took about 4 years before I finished it, but I did finish it although I doubt that I will let DH pick the block if I decide to make him another quilt. I should add that it was a king size quilt, approximately 110 x 110.

One of the first quilts I made was for my sister. I quilted it by holding the edges, instead of using quilting gloves. This was before I knew about the gloves. I would lick my fingers to get a good grip... considered using a sponge like we used to do when we had a lot of stamps to lick. Remember those days? Anyway, I ended up with a huge pleat on the back in one of the corners. I made a big... ok, now I'm having a senior moment... you know, that piece of fabric that you write on to say who the quilt is for and who made it, etc..... Covered up that pleat very nicely! I have also gathered a couple edges, but luckily haven't had to do that in a long time. Maybe I'm getting better at this!

For those of you who wanted to see the quilt, do a search in Pictures for "Audrey's Quilt". DH is supposed to be putting up some hangers for me so hopefully I can photo the completed quilt later this weekend.

A toast to you for coming up with that great solution to a problem a lot of us have at times. I also have found tips from my garment sewing handy in my quilting. Mine was when doing curves. Thank you for giving us your great tip.
