Love this thread! I learned to wear an apron when my "Cooking for Boys and Girls" cookbook's first instruction was to"wash your hands and put on an apron!" I was about 9or10. I wear them every time I cook or clean, so much so that my boys tell me I wear them "like a dress!" But they save my clothes and put me in the mood to work.
my favorite patterns come from Mary Mulari. I like the butcher style for its un fussy coverage and prefer them lined for the sturdiness and protection. But they have to be cute and cheerful, too! Love aprons!!! Lol!

I have always worn a apron. I just feel better when cooking and doing dishes to have one on. I usually buy mine. I like the heavier weight fabric so if my tummy does get wet at the sink the water doesn't immediately get through to my clothing. Some aprons can be beautiful!!

I should make one for my DH. He is always in the kitchen cooking. I can't eat his cooking (too many strange concoctions), but it would be fun to make him an apron, although he probably wouldn't wear it.

I love aprons. and wear them all the time when I cook , because I am so messy ( and I hate to ruin halfway decent clothes with spills). My absolute favorite book is "Retro Aprons" by Cindy Taylor Oates and also another of hers.
I usually make them reversible, because I am way to lazy to fiddle with bias binding
