Great job Jan! You'll be an expert at applique in no time.

Thanks! I've done a fair bit of hand-sewing, just never any applique.

Yup, my Baby Jane is going to be entirely batiks, in completely random colours. I'll start with using fabrics from my stash, and I'll get a few more if I find I'm running low or repeating the same fabrics too many times.

Hi, I have a question. I was just wandering about the Joann's and came upon a fat cat ruler http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/p...RODID=prd54321
this rules is twelve inches long, but at the eight inch mark it is five inches wide and that is the size of the dear jane triangle, 5 x 8 finished, right? Since I already have a 5 1/2" square, do you think this would work for the dear jane triangles and save me $20 in additional templates?

So now that I'm getting serious about the endeavor, I decided I would use my Joann's 50% off one item coupon and buy a large amount of muslin. Since one cut of fabric counts as one item... that sounds like the perfect use of a half off coupon!

So they have Kona Premium Muslin 44'' Unbleached for $2.99 a yard... this is good, right? I'm using civil war repros and muslin for my fabric choices....

Thanks!~

I think several of us have gotten both the 5 inch square and the triangle ruler for $14.00 (includes shipping) - through eBay

I think you would make your life easier if you could get the rulers

i don't see why it wouldn't work, with a joann coupon it would be a few bucks cheaper than the ebay lady.

It was $7 w/coupon and I can use it for other stuff as well, like maybe using it upside down to make the world's largest dresden plate or using it for the fat cats it was meant to be used. I have also printed out Klue's triangle template outline directions too, thanks Klue.

:-)

I am going to try it since I already have the square and I hate to have a tool that can only be used for one thing. And, if it really does make life harder, I can still purchase the set from the ebay seller.
