A lot of neat little machines in here. I'm a fan of the home made base on the 99 too.

I just fixed up another cute 3/4 size machine. It is a Montgomery Ward made by Happy. This little machine has zig zag. I'm not sure of the date of it. Probably right before MW shut down just a guess. There is no light. It is not light weight either but not terribly heavy. The bobbin is like a Singer 15. Takes the 15 bobbins. The stitch length is missing something to set the size stitch. When I got it it was skipping stitches - the needle was in the wrong position. Other wise it works nicely.

That looks like the little UHT-J266B that I bought to replace my wife’s first sewing machine that we sold in 1991 or 92. From photos, we think it was a URR-266 that she had, but we don’t know. We know it cost $44 back in 1976, and that was without the light. The light sold separately for additional expense that we passed on at the time.

What model is that one Miriam?

Here’s a photo of the replacement UHT-J266B (serial #86X 7547). The bed is 6 1/2” by 12”, and it weighs a whopping 26 pounds.

Model number UHT J266E I dug out the magnifying glass so I could see it.
CD your info sounds about right on the age from the looks of it. When did MW go out of business? Early 1980s?

I’m not sure about that. I’d have to do some research. Happy made some good machines I think, but I’m not sure when they quit or sold out.

My wife ordered hers out of the Wards Catalog a short time after we got married. She used a big chunk of our wedding gift money to pay for it as I seem to recall. That was back when $44 was a lot of money to us.

Actually, Wards got the order fouled up and sent her 2; 1 by USPS Parcel, and 1 by freight truck. She sent one back and then had to argue with Wards for quite some time that she wasn’t due a refund. They finally took the credit off of their books.

Do you have any history of your machine? It didn’t come out of a yardsale in southwestern Oklahoma in the early 90s, did it?

These are my little machines. A couple of featherweights, a 99 from 1927 and in the back is a 128 converted to hand crank. The 99 was my primary sewing machine until the featherweights arrived at Christmas with the card table.

And the non- Singers - all of these are "badged" machines. They are listed by the company that made them.

New Home, Model T-3

Standard, model A (?)

National, Model E- BT

I have a La Vincendora also and mine was converted to a hand crank. The action is incredibly smooth. I love it.
