I have to say I'm not overly fond of the grey background on this quilt. Maybe in person, it looks better. There doesn't seem to be enough contrast to me. When I see a lot of grey, I immediately look for the civil war connection.

Nope , not fond of gray but my son wants a quilt in burgundy and gray. It needs another color but nothing seems to go. Blue, white, yellow, gold, nothing goes with. Black is out because I cannot see to sew on black and it doesn't look good either. I did like pink and gray way back when it was Elvis' favorite color.

I have to get out more; didn't know about the sudden popularity of gray. I think I like it, I KNOW I like QUILTINGHAVEN's quilt on page 3 of this topic. It's very different and a wonderful quilt.

Maybe it looked better in person. Grey does tend to wash out in pictures.
Regarding the quilt show, I heard the same thing about the quiltshow from one of the members of my guild that there was a somewhat sad turnout and not a large number of quilt. In addition, some of the vendors had cancelled because they were worried about low turnout. She also said that the first year for a new location can be like that.
Apparently, the Phoenix AQS quilt show will actually be held in Taos, NM next year, since the SuperBowl will be in Phoenix next year and will return to Phoenix the following year

I love grey, especially the taupy greys. My house is full of that wonderful color. What I don't like are blues and reds. I love aqua, but "true blue" is a huge turn-off for me. So is red. Different strokes. (Although I have to admit that I've made some quilts with greys, browns and blues that I really liked.)
