don't have any suggestions for the quilting part ( you've gotten some great ones already). Just wanted to say how cute it is and can see why you want to keep it.

Your quilt is so adorable. Thanks for the pattern information. I agree with everyone recommending outlining the kitties, they are just too cute to sew over.

SID around the cats. Do some stitching in the cats to accent their features. Then background fill the black with a variegated thread

Those kitties are soo cute! I would quilt around each one and either fmq in the sashing or use circles.

There are many cute ideas already mentioned, but I will suggest another one. Perhaps you could echo your kitty in each square. Then do a radiating line into each corner and then subdivide the resulting spaces into more radiating lines. It would make the kitties pop up and make a secondary design within the squares.

How cute is this quilt? Such expressions and variety! Anyway, to your question: I'd definitely SID on the straights and use a bit of echo quilting around each cat. I like quilts that are soft and cuddly, so I don't liuek a lot of intense stitching.
