They were the last of the Italian made Necchis, from the 60's-70's. All metal, except for the cam stack.

ETA: The cam stack will run you about $160 for a used one.

LOL! I can think of a few machines that are already here that do a good straight stitch too.

I thought it was really high, but finding vintage machines at a "reasonable price" in the Houston area is a joke. I would L O V E to have a Rocketeer but they are pricey around here. And in thrift shops people think everything is made of gold. I'm always a little jealous of the things I see others pick up from thrift shops in other areas. Even the men's shirts are crazy - $5-7 for a cotton shirt. I can buy a yard of fabric for that at Joann's, sometimes less with coupons.

Skratchie one source we use to get old sewing machines is shopgoodwill.com. If machines are going high in your area you can probably get a good machine for less even after shipping is added in.

I forgot to add: Rocketeers go high everywhere I think. They're just cool looking machines and appeal to a lot of people.

I don’t usually contribute much to threads like this that tend to make fun of people and their listings, and I’m not making fun of this one that I saw on eBay. Their price may be a little on the high side, but the sale may be for a good cause.

What I want to point out on this one, is what I believe to be a good example of an error in the official records at Singer, and get other’s opinion on the identity of the machine. The owners say it’s a Singer 127, the serial number (S193029) indicates that it’s a Singer 27K, and I think it’s a Singer 28K. What do you think it is?

Auction link.

You never know what kind of prices you are going to find on Craig's List. I will agree that there is much that is way overpriced, but every once in awhile there's something wonderful at a bargain, even in the Houston area. I think I posted awhile back about the two antique machines (an Eldridge Two Spools and a Mason Rotary) in what i consider very good condition that I got for $60 for both. Granted neither had a cabinet, but they will either one fit in cabinets I already have. For now they have pride of place on the upper shelf in my studio.

Dang it. I typed the serial number S192039 wrong.

CD,

Sure looks like a 27K to me from the picture. I don't believe Singer made a 28k with the "Memphis" decals (?) Must weigh a ton if it's a 27K. Some measurements of the case are given if that's any help.
