If you are real serious about getting your old Kenmore up and going--don't you have a son (or maybe daughter) "fix-it for mom" inclined enough to study the entries suggested on this board to do this for you...

I had a real problem with a 201 (or maybe a 15-91) I forget now, that my son and I did this for. It turned out like new, and is happily ensconced (spell?) in a new home now. It turned out great, and didn't cost us anything except the reading time and actual take-apart and put back together.

We have even used this board for advice on the tension for a Gammill. Mine is one of the worst for this problem which seems to plague Gammill owners. Good luck, and keep us posted on whether you choose the east/west (whichever) way, or the do-it-yourself way.
