I do the Bonnie Hunter way. I sew in a triangle in the corner, edges under the binding. I add who, what, when, and where with a permanent pen. I don't care for embroidery labels on my quilts.

I don't label either. I don't consider my quilts "heirlooms" and doubt any of them will survive the "love" they get.

for me, it's not about the quilt being an heirloom, but more like signing a card or a love letter. just another personal touch.

b4 I got my emb machine, I would doit in hand emb or counted x-stitch.
Now I try to put a pic of the name of the quilt. on my Under the sea, I put
a cute little crab. on a baseball quilt for my dh, I put a ball player.

I use something plain like muslin ironed to freezer paper, write with Pigma pen: name of quilt/pattern, made for ___, Lori ___, ______ Wisconsin, March 2014. Sometimes I have a quote or a wish to add also. Then take off freezer paper, turn under edges and starch, glue stick onto quilt, hand stitch down.

If you have EQ, you can make wonderful labels and print them on fabric. (I used Printed Treasures fabric in the inkjet printer.) I recently bought EQStitch to add on to my EQ7, with the intention of creating labels that I can stitch out on my embroidery unit. (But I haven't gotten around to it... yet.)

I just learned how to use Microsoft Publisher to make labels with borders on my computer. Then I printed them on to Printed Treasures Inkjet sheets. They turned out great. I hand stitched them on to the back corner of the quilts.
