Well I have been working hard on doing mine. I have discovered that putting borders on a quilt is not all that easy at all. So many decisions to make. I am quilting as I go so I am going at a slower rate. On the second round I did the ribbon and I hate it. It just isn't right. so I stalled for a while. then I went to a quilt store with a friend and they have the material there to go with my center. I had bought the center at a shoop in MA when I visited my friend there and I did not buy the fabric to go with it, thinking I can match up my own. Ha Ha Ha. Matching the colors has been a huge headache. I have not been able to find the exact shades. Anyways....I am going to do the ribbon again with the fabric I got yesterday and then post it on here for opinions from all of you. so off to sew.

Urgodschild2, I really like your avatar. That ribbon sure looks sensational, not to mention the applique, flying geese, and center medallion. Really pretty. I know what you mean about not liking something that you think you would/should. Sometimes very disappointing. I am there on a project and am just going to give up and finish it.

I love the ribbon in your avatar surely your not talking about THAT ribbon are you urgodschild? wowsa if you are because I see something different than you do.

Well since its Saturday and a bunch of you might be home vs Tuesday when half of you are home Jan and I decided to surprise you with our next rounds. Mine is so easy its not funny its a simple box in a box. You make a square of your size chosing. Ideally if its a 4.5 inch box you would do a 1.5 inch center square, frame it on two sides identical sizes. Then go to top and bottom same sizing but the entire length of quilt so it would be now cut 1.5 x 4.5. Or subsequently if you chose to do a 6.5 inch block you start with a center 2.5" then add a frame that is 2.5 on two sides and another that is 2.5 x 6.5 on the opposite two sides to make a full square. tada! mine I chose is 7.5 and I also chose to do a larger center and a smaller side width. Its a bit wonky but I like it for the purpose that I needed it. My quilt is very bold and bright to this point. Next month I too will do a ribbon block three squares up to finish out my quilt. I hope to see what you have chosen along the way and I hope your having fun while doing it. Its all about learning these rounds so they get easier and easier and figuring out the math so you can make it work and if it DOESNT mathematically work for you what is your solution to it! and sharing what you have learned and teaching us a thing or two is a marvelous thing also. Consider this your learning curve so you can just bounce off anytime and do what you think works best for YOUR quilt. I am working on another quilt. I was originally going to do a 8.5 inch on top and bottom and then a 4.5 on the sides but decided I really love the round so went full kilter the whole way and .. I love it. Lessons we learn!

This quilt measured 44 1/2" so I went with another 4 1/2" round, partly because I was very short on this water-color fabric and wanted to use it. Cut 3 1/4" squares for the center and 2 7/8" squares and cut them corner to corner (you'll need 2 of these for each square). Each block should measure 4 1/2"

For the other quilt, in order for it to come out even and I wanted to pull just a little bit of the off white out of the material, I added a 1 3/4" strip all around. Then for the blocks: fabric 1 - one 4" square, cut diagonal and two 2 x 4 3/4" strips. fabric 2 - one 4" square, cut diagonal and one 2 x 4 3/4" strip. Square up to 6 1/2" x 6 1/2".
I think this is where you could make your quilt longer if you wanted by adding another row to the top and bottom

Yay.....a wonderful surprise this morning. Thanks Elizabrat and Jaba. Unfortunately, I like all three so will have to do some real pondering. But that is the fun part....the thinking and planning.

Urgodschild2, I had a similar problem with the round with the friendship stars. Just didn't like the way the colors worked. I kept thinking I would use them on the next round, and then the next. Finally I just took them all apart and I now have a bunch of half square triangles that I'll find something else to do with.

Wow Jaba, I really like this border and think it would go well with my quilt so far. But, mine measures 52.5" so I can't use the 6.5" block. I don't like math that well so I guess I'll go with your other border. There's no math on that one.lol

If you add 2inches you'll be perfect. You need to be at 54 1/2
