i would have bought that just as an example piece....
As to the Singer 1911, it was also not cost effective for singer. They made the guns to the same standards they did with their machines, which was higher then other firearms manufacturers, that is ALSO one reason they are highly prized..

My understanding is back in the 1940s or around there dealers would refurbish old treadle machines to be electric. Since the machines were no longer as they left the factory, Singer would make the dealers repaint them so it was obvious they were refurbished. Dealers were allowed to use the metal Singer tag you see on that machine.
The paint job didn't hold up on yours.

So I have a godzilla 127 with flaking paint. IIRC, the serial number referenced production in 1946. Is this likely a repaint? Would repaints have the older serial number? I haven't checked into whether there are decals under the godzilla? It has the newer, non-spoked handwheel. My dad bought it for me and he was so proud of himself for getting me a vinatge machine, it was cute. Now I use it for a comparison machine against the one I'm tearing down and rebuilding but wondered about the finish or if there's a way to restore the godzilla.

Great conversation, interesting info! SteveH, after your comment I seriously considered cuz the guy did drop it down to $10 but as I said it was an hour south of me.....I opted instead to go three hours north of me for a little 'ole 301. My hubby said he must be crazy to go along with this idea (I have...shhhh, 6 already) but I am soooo happy we went road tripping! Just got home and I will post more about it tomorrow. We are a tad pooped. Getting a little old for state wide jaunts! Lol!

Oh my that is magnificent. It looks like a Singer 66 with a football.
They must have used that kind of paint on a lot of stuff. I remember back in the 1950s our church had a piano, pulpit and communion table with that kind of paint. I always thought it was weird. I guess it was one way to "upgrade"? Maybe it is why they built a new church... I wonder where it is now?
