Be careful not to over quilt the background compared to the amount of quilting with the body of the clown. REAL CUTE. Should be a show stopper at at the quilt show!!

Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it. This guy is going to hang in my sewing room i dont get too carried away with "quilting" ....i don't enjoy it, truth be known.

The show is not a "judged" show. It is for the enjoyment of the visitors and the residents of a senior independent living facility. Strictly for display. Should be fun.

In the quilt I would pickup on the pinwheels then do some large circles to fill in. For the clown I would outline then perhaps a chevron. His hair needs some curls. Define the fingers with a feather stitch. And I like the spot light idea for the background. That nose needs to be really puffy.

Love the idea of the puffy nose! Never even thought of that!

I would add extra batting under the clown , hands, and feet to give him some depth. Also around some if his features.Hold the baying in place with water soluble thread on top an d trim the batting close. Then I would stitch in the ditch around those parts. stitch in the ditch around the quilt he is holding as well as some of the inside patches. Then I would do some free motion on the background to accentuate your clown. After quilting you can dissolve the water soluble as it is no longer needed. Sounds like a lot but I think it would be worth it to make it very special.

I thought the exact same thing....circles in the background. Of course, if circles are challenging for you, loops and circles would be great, too. Good luck in the show. Does your clown have a name?
