Larger block you are suppose to cut a square 7 1/2" and 4 strips which are 2 3/4" Put trips around the block to make a 12 X12 block. Picture make is look really easy. Saw it at Road to California so there have to be correct numbers somewhere, but so far this pattern does not work.

Yes, Jan. It is a rag quilt.

If you look at my diagram on the previous page, and change the 8.5 X 4 rectangles to 8 X 4 rectangles, you get a 10 inch finished block. I think that's the solution.
The blocks do not finish 12", they finish 10". by cutting off .5" from the 2 rectangles, everything should fit.
Black numbers are cut size, red numbers are finished size.

I think it all boils down to the pattern was written for 1/4" seams. They say to use 1/2" seams for flannel but didn't adjust the sizes. Someone check my math ---
I think if you cut 5x5, 4.5x5, 2-4.5x8.5, and 4.5x12 it will sew up to a 12 inch square. Unfinished.
Cut a 8x8 for the center and 3" strips to go around (3x8, 3x10, 3x10, 3x12) will sew up to a 12 inch square - unfinished.
When you sew them all together the squares will finish at 11". Hope someone double checks me. )

I'm sorry you're having all this trouble with this quilt. It is frustrating I know but don't let it dampen your enthusiasm for quilting in general. Not all quilts are like this - in fact few are in my experience. Chalk this one up to experience and maybe not buy patterns from this place again. I had a similar experience with a pattern that I bought as a download and part of it was missing. The company never responded or replaced what was missing yet they frequently send me e-mails of their other pattern offerings. Grrrrr....

It is definitely an error on the part of the designer. She is not winning any fans with her attitude. You will find the wrong measurements sometimes but not too often. If in doubt cut out with paper first and see if it lines up. All the best and happy quilting.

Hi SoCal! Welcome from N.Texas. Your problem is the reason I like four patches and nine patches and the variations thereof shown on MSQC videos, and better than that, log cabins and Dresden plates. I'm glad there are so many people on this board who can help with problems like the one you have described. If I were doing it, I would decide what size squares and/or rectangles, recut all the fabric, and make everything nice and square. froggyintexas

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP!!! Sitting down with it tonight. I usually do rag quilts that are simple squares but thought this was so cute when I saw it at Road to California. I will be going back to my old standards for now on. Been quilting too long to feel this kind of frustration and have the designer not help.
