Love the quilt and those wonderful fabrics. I would take a 4-5" strip of muslin to attach at the top of the quilt with hemming stitches, as hand stitching a hemming stitch would come out more easily when it comes time to take the quilt down. Good luck with your raffle, hope you make lots of money for the school. If the quilt is to be hung at the new school, I might use black cotton for the sleeve, sewing it to the top of the quilt along the binding sewing lines, then hand stitching the bottom to keep it in place. When I make sleeves for wall quilts, I like to leave a 2-3" gap in the middle, this would make it easier for hanging.

Absolutely beautiful. I am sure there will be lots o $$$'s raised. Maybe you already rec'd this sugg. I usually just safety pin the sleeve if is truly a bed quilt. A row of pins at the binding and a row at base of sleeve. When hanging done-unpin the sleeve.
Let us know if you made a lot of $$'s. i find it very interesting to see what other quilter's creations are doing to raise interst in the craft and also the hearts of those who purchaase chances.
Much good fortune

Wow! That's fantastic. I recently returned from a trip to Africa and saw a few quilts in a similar style to yours but yours is by far the best I've seen. I too have been planning a quilt like this since I returned but so far it has only taken shape (somewhat) in my head. I am definitely pumped now!

Tomorrow I'm helping to put the quilt on display in the main reception area at school. It's a large chrome and glass area with loads of space for the quilt to be draped from an upper balcony. The Headmaster has decided that the best way to raise funds is to have a silent auction for the quilt at the lower and upper school end of term ceremonies at the end of June. They've decided to set the start price at £500 (around 800dollars). I was a bit surprised at this but have been reassured that they are confident that it will raise much more that that. This is the first quilt I've ever had on display so I'm really rather excited.
