Brat not only approves she is entirely envious! that is a GORGEOUS quilt top can't wait to see it quilted. its amazing how big these grow and how fast! I have three round robins that came to me in the mail. End up with a medallion style quilt when they are finished and I am stumped on one. I went to the fabric store and bought more batiks for it. Its a beautifully hand appliqued center surrounded by stained glass colors. My round is 4.5 inches and .. stumped I am. I have put my own Medallion by the side. Two other round robins await me and they are the same Medallion style quilts so I have to put my head to thinking .. what to do what to do.

I love your quilts oh please post the finished ones and pat yourself on the back. You did it! you have made one and once you make one.. its fun to see the possibilities that you can find with it. I think this was such a fun experience and hope to see so many more quilts here. If you need time take it but post your pictures when you finish! share with everyone what you have done and learned. Surprise ladies!! I got them done for you so decided to go ahead and post. There may be some of you that have a long weekend and want to sew on your medallion's so here goes.
6 1/2" unfinished border:
Fabric 1=(A) 1- 7 1/4"square, cut on the diagonal both ways (yields 4) you will use 2 per block
Fabric 2=(B) 2- 2 5/8" X 2 5/8" square
Fabric 3=(C) 1- 4 1/4" X 4 1/4" square, cut on the diagonal both ways, yields 4 triangles

Sew 2 (C) to 1 (B) square, then sew that unit to an (A) triangle. Make 2 of these units and sew together for your block. Should measure 6 1/2" X 6 1/2" [ATTACH=CONFIG]476721[/ATTACH][ATTACH=CONFIG]476722[/ATTACH][ATTACH=CONFIG]476723[/ATTACH][ATTACH=CONFIG]476724[/ATTACH]

For this one I cut 2 1/2" strips of my 2 colors and made square in a square blocks again to bring them back out in the quilt. This is a 4 1/2" unfinished border. Cut 1- 3 1/4" square out of your main fabric and 2- 2 7/8" squares(cut these once diagonal). Sew sides, then top and bottom. Measure your quilt according to how many blocks you want around it. Finally sort of finished this one so thought I would show you. Quilted and got it all squared up today and the binding sewn on, now just all the hand sewing the binding to finish it. Thank you, Brat. I tried putting that sq in a sq next to the ribbon border and it looked awful. So then I was determined to use them and put the buffering borders in which increased the size pretty quickly. Originally I had the gold triangles next to the green and that didn't suit me either. So flipflopped, after ripping the thing out, and I thought it added a "solid" feel to the edge of the quilt. This has been a really good learning experience, both to investigate possibilities, and to do the math to make everything work. I think I would have to say my favorite round was the hourglass turned on point with one color to the inside and the other to the outside. It makes a good framing round. The ribbon one was its own challenge with no seams between the two blocks where one would normally be, so I have really learned a lot.

Everyone has such pretty quilts. It is so amazing how different they all look even using the same blocks. I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend with friends and family.

Thanks Jaba. I think I will go with the diamonds next. I'm wasn't sure I would have enough fabric to do that but with the strips idea I can do it. That last one is really pretty. Shows you can do a 'big' medallion. Much faster that way.

That's why I chose the diamonds and just made as many blocks as I had fabric for, when it's gone it's gone. Actually whitepine those big medallions aren't any faster, lots more area to sew and match believe it or not. Almost took a whole yard of fabric just for the binding. Sewed on a fractured wall hanging for a little bit this morning, then outside for awhile doing yard stuff and got the garage about half cleaned. Need to finish that tomorrow for sure.
