    yes, the "batting buddy" is a square template surrounded by a one inch frame. You cut your batting to fit in the frame, cut your back square the same size as the frame and fit your block to the batting in a quilt as you go block. I used it to center my finished block.... then I quilted them. The back becomes your sashing when you join the blocks. Very quick and pretty forgiving too!! I will try this again. I just cut my 9 patch straight down the middle in both directions and turned two opposing corners. that's it! The 9 patch went: blue, white, blue: white red white: Blue white blue

    I've mafe a d9p w/o sashing. But I have to say the sashing in yours really gives it a great look. Now I need to do another one
