Try a hotter iron. I have never had a problem with all kinds of treated material. Be sure to lay the paper on the fabric and iron the paper not the fabric.

I think it would be impractical to have sand paper for each of the blocks. Freezer paper never turns loose on me. Can't imagine why it's not sticking. Good luck on which ever solution you choose to use. I think your iron wasn't hot enough and it wasn't ironed long enough.

I would use a basting stitch and sew around the square with a darker thread. This will fill two purposes to hold the fabric to the freezer paper and to give signers a border to write within. But the reason could be as suggested before: a bad batch.

I have had freezer paper come off when I have over-ironed it. Just a quick iron is all it needs. Has anyone tried a quick spray of basting spray? I wonder if that would keep it in place until after the signatures are done. I have not tried that myself, just thinking out loud.

I use sand paper to. 10 sheets for a $ at dollar store. They can be cut down to size. Also you could use the sandpaper nail files-can't think of name- they have a few widths.

I recently made a signature quilt, but didn't use the freezer paper. Every block available at the wedding was written on as hoped. No one had any problems at all signing. I used fabric marker pens for all to sign with, the variety pack with all colors. The quilt was well loved and accepted. If I knew how to put the photo out there, I would...sigh. I did a lot of research on designs before making this signature quilt, and finally came up with a 1930's design.

I have never had problems with freezer paper sticking. Are you pressing or ironing? You use a up/down motion, not a forward, backward motion or you will iron it off.
Also, I would wash the fabric, then starch it real good to make it a little stiff so the pen will write real good.

My fabric is unwashed Moda Bella and I am using Reynold's paper and shiny side to fabric. I like the ideas of the frame and or sandpaper. Will try both. I did go back and re-iron those "bad" pieces (maybe I wasn't pressing long enough before).
Have the Pigma .05 pens and some other fabric pens that I have played with for color and if anyone wants to add a picture.
Will let you know how it goes!
    Thanks for all the help!!

I don't have any problems with freezer paper coming off, but I leave a 1/4 inch seam all around the square so that the people signature don't get caught in the seams. I also keep the iron on the freezer paper a little longer to make sure it stays.
