I would be surprised if it didn't bolt right up. I don't know that much about earlier machines but I'm betting Singer didn't spend a lot of money redesigning and retooling the belt guard and hand wheel areas.

I don't think there is any going back from that.
Is it a headstone?

A Singer 143W2 is really not much of an “Upholstery” machine, but it’s probably a nice aluminum ZZ machine.

I don't really care what it does or is supposed to do. I like it because it looks interesting.

That would be cool. Of course, I couldn’t use the bedraggled base that the machine is setting in now, so for such a specimen, I’d probably have to checkout one of the “Rodney’s World-wide Custom Sewing Machine Bases” that I’ve heard about....

I agree. If things work out as planned, this weekend I will be picking up a Singer 12 MOP that I want to make into a handcrank. I may have even found a correct handcrank, but I am still looking for the correct portable base and lid for a 12. (and based on the machine I am working towards, it will need to be a NICE case...)

Yes it is. It still has most of the center medallion intact. That seems like a weakness on the decals of the early Whites to me.
I'm developing a fondness for the older Whites.

The cabinet is in nice shape. I'm not sure that's the original bonnet. It looks just like the Singer one I just posted earlier today. The machine's finish has some issues and the bobbin winder appears to be long gone.
I hope this helps with the pain Steve.
Here's one that's a bit of a bother.
