I spent a couple hours this morning playing with scraps to figure out how to do Clue #2 using the Easy Angle template. It took me awhile, but I finally figured it out. I didn't want to use the method that required marking the squares and then having the cut off piece left over. At first I was trying to attach the triangle to the wrong side - LOL. Know wonder it wouldn't work. I have all my pieces cut out and will start putting them together tomorrow. I did do one, so 199 more to go and then putting them in pairs. Actually, I will be doing them in groups of 10. I like doing them in small groups so I can see progress and don't get bored doing the same step.

Fyi, I'm doing the 3rd method, marking the squares and getting extra little HSTs. I made a plastic template for both the 2" line and the 2 1/2" line. It's much quicker than using a ruler to mark the center of the square. I figured I'd pass this idea along in case it helps anyone else.

I'm using the 3rd method also. I tried the others and I get the most accurate results this way. I'm not sewing the 2nd line for the extra HST's, but am just cutting the 2 back triangles off. They can be used in flying geese paper piecing like in my avatar. That little quilt is about 8" X 10".

Here's something else that was posted on how to do step 2. This looks great to me. I just can't figure out how to know exactly where to put the black triangle. I am waiting for a reply from the person who posted.
I printed a previous one that someone put on here with doing strips. It was 26 pages! Used up all my ink! Now I don't even plan on doing them that way. Live and learn!

I am doing step 2 using a base rectangle cut 2.5 x 4.5 and precut triangles. I lay the triangle on the rectangle and sew using the edge as a guide. Then I can check my block accuracy, trim the extra background piece out or not (one quilt book I has does not) No bias edges, templates, or lines to draw.

I bought enough fabric to make 1/2 size but only planned to make 1/4 size until I see how it goes and how I want to finish it. I realized tonight that I have used over half of the pink (both clues cut and almost done) so I won't have enough to do the 1/2 even if I wanted to. I have not wasted very much so calculations from Bonnie were off. That shouldn't be a problem for everyone doing a real scrappy, just pull out another piece if you need one. She called for 2 yards and I got 1 yard.
Oh well I'll worry about that another day but thought I would just give a heads up.

I just made a sample of clue #2 with the template. Even though my template measured 1/8" larger in both directions, when cut out like BH recommends, it fits the Easy Angle Ruler perfectly. I actually cut one smaller and it didn't fit right. The key to getting the corners on correctly and a good rectangle is making sure the hypotenuse AND the side line up with the diamond. Mine comes out about 1/8" long but width is right on! I can live with this and trim them. Maybe by the time I do a few it will all work out. For me, method #2 is the way to go. I think I'll have to cut all of my diamonds first then remove the template to cut my triangles. I've been reading all of your suggestions both here and on Facebook all day while I was out at a basketball tournament. I was DYING to get home and figure it out. Going to start cutting here shortly. So excited!

Boy, just caught up with the posts here. Like many I auditioned all the methods & got the best results (for me) with #3. I only got a portion of #1 done but they're all cut. I have so many things to get done for DG's but am fitting little blocks of time in to play at this mystery.
