I'm practicing FMQ on a scappy top I picked up somewhere. I starte with Gutterman cotton thread. I was getting a bit of lint. I then tried Isacord polyester and the lint build-up stopped.

I love Superior threads. In fact I use Bottom Line in the bobbin for all my piecing/quilting. My Husqvarna 875 Quilt loves all threads. Because I have tons of spools from Connecting Threads in a multitude of colours, I'll keep using it to piece with (Bottom Line in the bobbin) until it runs out.

With a couple of exceptions (spools of King Tut that I needed right then for mug rug gifts) all my thread has been bought at sale prices. I buy Superior thread cones: they have a lot of online sales.

I use those and Connecting Threads and my machine seems happy with both. It's in my DNA to consider price and these both meet my criteria

Superior Threads is so generous too:

"If you live in Hawaii, Bob (at left) will personally deliver your order for an extra $750 shipping charge. If you don't live in Hawaii, Bob is still willing to take your order there. Superior no ka 'oi.
    Aloha"

I don't want to get into a discussion about which thread is "best" because we each have our own opinion. But the topic is cost, and I have read posts here that say Coats and Clark is "expensive." Going by the price at Joann's website, a 500 yard spool of Dual Duty XP polyester is $4.29, or $.0086 a yard. Only two of the examples in the original post were less than that.

My machine is not very picky in thread choices. She only balks at C&C. A while ago I bought tons of Connecting Threads Cotton in neutrals for piecing and a few of the color sets for quilting. I got it on sale of course. Regardless of type, I make sure to get thread on sale. I do like the Superior Threads customer service.

Green Fairy Quilts has a sale going now on Aurifil single spools & sets. Set of 12 lg spools is $84.00. Sound $$ but breaks down to $7 per spool. I got the basic set & am happy with it. Green Fairy has thread sales quite often.

I was using Superior on my Bernina 440 to quilt a lap size quilt - had to stop and clean the machine twice because of all the lint this thread made.

I'm very visual and touchy. I cannot make myself order thread or fabric online. I may pay a little more but I have to see and feel regardless.
