#8 mystery quilt train ride - it's scrap-alicious!

Dot great blocks. Mine is totaly controlled scrappy! I trimmed the first block a 9", we all think big
I cut yardage for the triangles (my scraps are not too big) so I chickened (OCD in overdrive) and cut all in two colors and medium size prints.
I'm not going to eat cheesecake at club car for penance....

so I have a question.....not on this scrappy, but in general.....can you put in flannel or flannel panels in a cotton quilt top? Such as, if the panels are all animals, but the rest of the material is cotton. I wanted to make the back flannel too. Suggestions?

I hope you meant 12 1/2"? Yes, I came to the same conclusion. I decided to square up to 8 3/4. Then use 7 1/2 inch blocks to do the outer triangles. That's generous, with quite a bit to trim off, but I'd rather have that than be too small. BUT, I end up with more than 1/4 inch beyond the points of the last square-in-square ... I guess that's not critical?

Seems like we are all having different experiences. When I sewed the light triangles to the dark I trimmed to 8.75 and came out with all points plus the .25 inch. I cut the squares for the outside triangles to 7.75. Then trimmed to 12.5. Worked out for me.
Love the way this is coming out. Would love to try some of the crumb pieces in that last triangle but for now just going with the one fabric.

Wow, gorgeous blocks, ladies! Love the contrast with the darks and lights. Whoo hoo!
Looks like Dottie has an I Spy quilt going on, or maybe will turn it into a Where's Waldo!
As to the flannel question, I will weigh in with my humble opinion. I won't use flannel in a cotton quilt, seems as if even when preshrinking twice, my flannel squares still shrank!
